November Art Studio

Artists are busy in the Art Studio. The stations this month were papier mache, wood and wore sculpture, painting, and weaving. Come take a look at some of our projects!

November Art Studio

Cardboard, wood, wire, tape and an imagination.

This is an acrylic painting done by an 8th grade student. It is a perfect example of the Choice Art Studio. This young lady created this project for no special reason except that SHE COULD.

Finished Columbia Space Shuttle!

Is it possible to have fun in the Choice Art Studio? Indeed it is!

Struggle. That's what this project was all about. The young artist had in mind to create an American flag on a loom using K'Nex. Well...he began using string as the warp and the K'Nex were way too far apart. He unwarped and rewarped with the string very loose. It was a disaster. We conferred and decided that elastic might be the way to go. It worked and worked well. I was very, very proud of this young man for going through the entire artistic process, struggling, and finally succeeding!

A self-portrait in pencil completed by a very talented young man.

Wood and wire! Hammers and wire cutters! What will this become?

Isn't this lovely? This is an acrylic painting by an eighth grade student.

The young man that chose this project had a very special reason for doing so. His mother recently became an American citizen and he wanted to make her a bookmark as a gift. He wanted to use red, white, and blue yarn, but we didn't have those colors. I told him I would get them, but he really wanted to start the project and decided on another skein of yarn.

Weaving has become a very popular artistic expression in the MRMS Art Studio and the variety of projects is astounding.

Cardboard and papier mache...what could be better?

Another example of a terrific wood and wire sculpture. We put out a call for aged barn wood to use as the backing for this piece. I walked out to our barn and there was the perfect piece of wood. I teach a pirate class at Colorado College in the summer and I may need to borrow this fine skull and crossbones!

Lots of fun things happening in the Art Studio. Look at this awesome wood and wire sculpture!
